Kafr Nabo كفر نابو

Kafr Nabo (كفر نابو)

The tiny village of Kafr Nabo (كفر نابو) has several Byzantine-era remains and is worth a stop if visiting the nearby sites of Burj Heidar (برج حيدر) or Barad (براد). The southern edge of the settlement has a couple of large villas in decent condition with a significant number of well preserved stone carvings. The northern portion of the settlement is largely in ruin, however, including the church. There are about a half dozen Kurdish families living in the modern village established at the site.

Getting There: Kafr Nabo (كفر نابو) is located about two kilometers north of Burj Heidar (برج حيدر) and three kilometers south of Barad (براد), on a dirt road that travels between the two villages. If you’re hiking between the two sites, you’ll pass right through Kafr Nabo (كفر نابو). There is a very infrequent microbus from Aleppo (حلب) to the village of Basufan (باصوفان), and this microbus travels through Burj Heidar (برج حيدر), leaving only the remaining two kilometers to travel on foot. If you want to hire a private driver directly to the village, it would be easiest to take one of the more frequent microbuses to the town of Nabl (نبل), to the east, and hire a driver from there.
